Septic Service Scout

Licensed septic pumper directory (official state registries)

Instead of building our own contractor list, this directory points you to the government registries that license septic pumping and septage hauling businesses. These are the agencies' own records, so they are more current than any list we could keep. It currently covers ten states (Washington is listed with a King County example because the state approves pumpers at the county level). Licensing works differently in each state, and in many states it's handled by counties, so a missing state doesn't mean pumpers there are unlicensed. Each link was checked on November 8, 2026.

How to use a registry

  1. Get the business's legal name and, where used, its license or transporter number from the quote or the truck.
  2. Search the registry and check that the license is active and covers pumping or hauling.
  3. If you can't find a record, ask the business for its license number, or contact the agency.
  4. Then compare prices using our cost guide and the questions to ask.

Septic Service Scout doesn't add, remove, or rank businesses, and it doesn't endorse anyone in these registries. MPCA says its search results aren't intended to be used as advertising. Inclusion in a registry shows licensing status only, not quality.
